Monday and Tuesday were all about grading Midterms from the undergraduate Short American Novels class. I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. The exams are not terrible, but many of them didn't use evidence in their responses, and the grammar wasn't very good either. My friend Pat Darling told me that I probably got spoiled from the graduate students and Honors students last semester. She's probably right about this. I still have to grade Question #12 (out of 12 questions) and their extra credit response.
Monday, we also had a two-hour Chinese class with Deborah. It was mostly review, but we went over some useful phrases, such as how to interact with people at a hotel. It's always interesting to talk to her. I do think Kerry and I feel a bit lost at this point, though, especially with only 58 days left. I think we're beginning to wonder if we should bother....we are learning, though.
I also worked on my .ppt (as they call it here) for Nanjing Normal University. I'm giving two lectures on Monday: one on the Sentimental Tradition in American Literature (which I still need to trim down a bit) and one on getting in to graduate school in the US. It's the grad school one that I worked on. Jeff is going to help me pretty it up.
We had leftover pork chops, potatoes, and broccoli for dinner Monday night; Tuesday night, Kerry made a great chicken breast with tomatoes. Very yummy!
That's about it for now. I'm sure I'll have more for Wednesday. I usually do.
