Days 267-268: Afternoon with Richard, Day Inside of Prep Work

We spent Monday afternoon with Richard. We took a taxi to a German restaurant called Hacker-Pschorr on the North side of the Bund. It was quite fancy, with high prices to match. Great sausage, sauerkraut, and mashed potatoes. They also had a delicious apple pie. Afterwards, we wandered around the Bund, took some pictures, and went over to a cute, out-of-the-way little coffee shop with beautiful furniture on the inside; it looked more like a home than a coffee shop, simply called 1915 (the street address). Two young men on the inside ran the show. One was very kind and introduced himself to us in English, shaking our hands.. There we chatted some more. It's really nice getting to know Richard. We learned some more things about him, such as that he was in the army. He just seems like a genuinely nice person who enjoys socializing with us. I have to admit that that does help on the lonely days here. After we got home, I did some grading--leftover spaghetti for dinner--and Kerry rested. He had a stomachache and wasn't feeling well.

Not much happened Tuesday: I did some grading and prep work for Wednesday's class. Kerry did some errands: bank, dry cleaner's, Apple Store (to get me a new USB iPhone cord--my old one has died--fortunately it wasn't as bad as I thought--about $21 USD).  I made dinner (chicken potatoes, and salad), and then we both packed a bit. We now have three full suitcases out of the six total we have. We may have to buy one more. We're hoping we can make it home on six suitcases, two carry-ons, and two personal items (excluding, of course, the kitty cat), but, as I said, one more suitcase may be needed. The costs do add up.  31 more days until we go home--wow, one more month.

Interior of the coffee house. Gorgeous!
Our Tuesday night dinner. Should last us awhile.
